The first day of the qualifying round made the Czech team the first to appear in both sides of this page, showed how Belgium make their Scholar's mate and how important Yilmaz is for the Turkish team.
The Good News
Czech your percentages – When you finish a game, take a look at the stats sheet and realize your best percentage was 37.5% and even that was from the free throw line, you're in trouble. Czech Republic made 33.3% from close range, only 24% of long range and the above mentioned from the line. Then why is this Good News? Because they still weren't very far from beating Germany. If you shoot so awful and play so bad but still have a

chance to win a game, you have a bright future.
Belgium Scholar's Mate – The first game in the qualifying round between Belgium and Turkey was one sided but worse than that it was decided only mid-way through the first quarter. After 4:47 Belgium held a 19-2 lead and from that point on there was not much of an interest in the game. To be more exact the game started with a 2-2 tie before Belgium went on a big 17-0 run. In that period Belgium was nine of 11 from the field while Turkey went one out of eight before getting their fourth point.
The Bad News
Lithuania's softness – When Latvia and Lithuania meet it's usually an interesting game, but this time Latvia easily won by 30. There's more than one way to lose by 30. You can keep fighting till the end or you can pack it in early. Lithuania gave up easily and that's not the right way to lose by a big margin. When you lose by so much but send your opponent to the line only six times, and commit only 13 fouls it means you were way-way-way too soft and gave up on the game way-way-way too easily.
Czech Pressure – So there's a good side for the bad game of Czech but they won't get away so easily from the less happy section of this page. With 4:27 to go in the game Michaela Uhrova gave the the Czechs a two point lead, but from that moment on Germany went on an 11-2 run. In those minutes Czech Republic missed four shots, but worse than that committed no less than five turnovers.
Yilmaz is a Must – Nevriya Yilmaz arrived here as the biggest star of Turkey, but after four games she has only played in two of them. She missed the game against Czech Republic and yesterday against Belgium. In the first occasion Turkey lost 86-62. In the second case they lost 85-63. Same conditions, very similar score. Turkey should hope for Yilmaz to recover from her injury soon, or else.
