In the third edition of Good News, Bad News we'll talk about the stone cold Alexandra Muller, the hot hand Turkey and Russia adopted and the nightmare Greece had against the Russian giants.
The Good News
Turkey and Russia recover – Both were ranked last in made three-pointers after two days. Turkey was last in percentage from that range, but on the third day they showed a different face. Turkey, with a rope around their neck, hit 10 out of 24 shots from long range in the win over Israel to display both quantity and accuracy. Russia scored only two long range shots in each of the first two games, but in the big win over Greece hit 10 out of 14 shots – an amazing 71.4%. That equaled a blow out win over Greece (39 points) instead of a nail-biter like the first two days.

Third quarter defense – Group A was decided in the third quarter last night. Turkey made a 13-0 run early in that quarter, limited Israel to a total of four points and a total of 17 points in the second half. Latvia was outscored 19-4 during the Czech run in the third, got stuck on nine points for the entire quarter, and a total of 20 in the second half.
Romania's spirit – It was already known and certain Romania has no chance to qualify to the next round before the tip-off to their last game against Belgium. Nevertheless that was their best game. They had five players in double-digits, and held a 10 point lead in the second half against the Belgians. With 33 seconds on the clock they were down by just one, but missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that could have forced overtime. Romania is going home with a 0-3 record, but their efforts and good performance in a meaningless game is something to appreciate.
The Bad News
Greece's nightmare – Russia totally dominated the game against Greece. So much so that the Greeks couldn't even get close to the rim. Russia had 13 blocked shots in this game. As a result Greece stayed far away from the paint and focused on three-pointers. They hit no less than 10 shots from behind the arc at a respectable 40% clip but the total number of shots made from inside the arc (7) and the free throw line (3) was equal to the number of made shots from long range, and that's not a good sign.
Long range challenge – Israel went three out of 25 from long range in their win-or-die game against Turkey. Considering they were two out of five at the end of the first quarter, it leaves us with just one three-pointer out of 20 shots in the last three quarters. But what would you say if you heared that the number of three-pointers Italy and France combined for in their game isn't more than what Israel scored? Italy went one out of six while France was two out of six, in a games where they didn't shoot much from outside the arc.
Muller out of focus – Germany's Alexandra Muller had a huge start to EuroBasket Women, pouring in 22 points, including five downtown bombs, in the first game. Since then she's been stone cold. On day two against Belgium she didn't score any points and was zero of three from the field. It's normal for a scorer to have a night like that once in a while, but on day three against Lithuania the drought continued. Once again no points on the board, and this time she went zero from six including five shots from long range. In the next round Muller will try to break the drought and hit her first shot after nine consecutive missed shot. Germany will certainly need that.
