The cuisine in Chieti is closely tied to the agricultural background of the region. It is typically simple and comes in many courses as a result of the meeting of so many different cultures in the area. Typical of the area is the sagra, a sort of cuisine festival that almost every village organizes in summer.

Chieti offers visitors a variety of culinary choices including dishes made with vegetables, legumes and wonderful meats like lamb.

There are some specialities like the “mazzarelle”, “coratella cacio e uova”, “maccheroni alla chitarra” and “sagne e fagioli”. The region is also known for its wonderful cheeses like pecorino, scamorze, burrini and caciocavalli.

There are several award-winning wines made in the area including Trebbiano D.O.C and the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo D.O.C.
