Slovakia women's coach Vladimir Karnay believes his team underestimated rivals Israel after missing out on a place at EuroBasket Women on Friday night.

Karnay's team lost 84-71 to Israel in the additional qualifying tournament on Wednesday - a result which ultimately cost them a place at the finals in Italy.

Slovakia edged Poland 76-74 in Lanciano in the final game of the Additional Qualifying Tournament on Friday night to ensure that Israel advanced to the EuroBasket Women.

Needing only to win the game after their victory over Israel, the Polish failed.

Israel led 58-52 early in the fourth quarter but Poland held their nerve and fought back to win 78-71 in the additional qualifying tournament for the EuroBasket Women.

Fresh off their 84-71 win over Slovakia, Israel were hoping to book their place in the finals.

Liron Cohen and Meirav Dori provided most of the firepower on offense and Israel broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to stun Slovakia in the first game of the Additional Qualifying Tournament for the EuroBasket Women.

In the game staged in Lanciano, Italy, each player buried a trio of three-pointers with Cohen scoring a game-high 24 and Dori weighing in with 20 in an 84-71 triumph.

Slovakia coach Vladimir Karnay has warned his players not to underestimate Israel when the two sides meet on Wednesday in the additional qualifying tournament for the EuroBasket Women.

Both national teams struggled through the initial qualifying round and looked prime candidates for relegation, but in the additional qualifying tournament, the fortunes of each changed.

Hungary bounced back from their midweek defeat to Bulgaria by thrashing Israel on Saturday in the additional qualifying tournament for the EuroBasket Women.

Timea Ivkovicné Béres, Petra Ujhelyi and Zsófia Fegyverneky each scored 14 points in the 73-54 Group B triumph in Györ.
