Hungary women's coach Tamas Sterbenz is happy with his side's preparation for the EuroBasket qualifiers in September but admits he expects Group A to be full of tough matches, even with the arrival of point guard Dalma Ivanyi.
Hungary will line up against Bulgaria, Greece and Belarus in their Division A group, starting on September 6 against the Greeks.
Ivanyi, a EuroLeague Women All-Star last season, will be with Hungary for those games following the end to her WNBA season with San Antonio.
"I hope Hungary are the strongest team but we have not much information about some of the others," he told PA Sport.
"Maybe Belarus, who have come up from the group B, we don't know too much about but we know Bulgaria and Greece and I think all six games will be close."
Sterbenz, speaking ahead of a four-team friendly tournament which will pit his side against Ukraine, Croatia and the Slovak Republic, revealed he was unsure how well his team would do when the qualification campaign gets under way but is convinced the players are improving.
"We used 14 players when we had two games against Romania last week, and we beat them both times," he continued.
"The first game was 71-67 and the second we won 66-65. I'm pleased about how we're playing and although I'm a little worried we won't qualify we are definitely better than last year.
"We played against the US side in March and then we had an all-stars game in Hungary so I'm happy with our preparation.
"Also [Dalma] Ivanyi is coming back from the USA. She is going to join and help the team."
After the completion of their current tournament, Hungary will then play two friendlies against Germany before the important matches begin in earnest.
