Ekaterina Lisina is thought of as one of the top young prospects in her age group. As proof of that statement, she was considered a candidate for the 2006 FIBA Young Woman Player of the Year award. It is not a surprise, as players with her size and mobility are a rarity. At the age of 16 she left her native Penza for Hungarian club side MiZo Pecs but wasted little time in sending a message to her motherland as she twice blocked the shot of Maria Stepanova in a Euroleague game against CSKA Samara. Igor Grudin was more than impressed with her performance and took her to the 2006 World Championship.
