Biggest EuroBasket Success
The balance of gained medals is not something to be disregarded, but it is not to be praised as well. The Serbians have six medals to their credit - four Silver and two Bronze. The Blue girls finished fourth four different times, and six times they were the fifth best. But, more concerning than anything, is the fact that the last time the "Plavi Ladies" stood on the winners' podium was back in 1991, during a EuroBasket held in Tel Aviv , as they brought back a Silver medal.

three different people, the Serbian ladies went to Turkey for EuroBasket silently, without any expectations. They didn’t promise a lot, objectively they were no miracles expected, however, the fact that the Serbian National Team did not make it to the Quarter-Finals was pretty deceptive. The biggest EuroBasket disaster in the "post-Yugoslavian" era came with the eighth place in 2003, in Greece. Expert, led by Miodrag Vesković gathered the strongest team possible at the time. Players were saying, ''A medal, now or never!'' Well, the medal never came, although Serbian fans hope it won't be much longer. The group that went to Greece full of optimism came back to Belgrade with a dissapointing eighth place. So instead of shining in the 2004 Olympics in Athens the following summer, they played anonymously in the Qualifying Round for the 2005 EuroBasket.
Best Individual Performance/Best Player of All-Time
The biggest success of Yugoslav and Serbian women's basketball was a silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games, in Seoul. And the winning basket in the semi-final game, against Australia, was scored by Andjelija Arbutina, in the last seconds. This action was something that had become a trademark of one of the greatest players in Serbia in modern history. Andjelija Arbutina was the unique star of her generation, like Marija Veger, or Zorica Djurkovic and Sofija Pekic became later. She was the leader and top scorer of every team, from Red Star to the national side. But in her trophy case where there are a lot of titles and medals, two of them have the special place; the silver medal brought back from Seoul and another Silver gained in the 1991 EuroBasket in Israel. There are good players in the new generation, but it will be many, many years until they can reach Arbutina`s successes…
Likely Squad – Scouting report
Since the last EuroBasket, the country has become smaller once again, after the independence of Montenegro and the base for recruitment shrank with it. Some of the players, hesitating between a Serbian or a Montenegrin jersey, have chosen the Montenegro colours. Yet, Serbian women's basketball still has a future. For the past year, Serbia has often been bouyed by great performances at the youth level (a Silver medal in U16 in 2004, one Gold and a Silver in U18 in the past two European Championships). The Plavi (Blue) Young Ladies have brought back nice performances from each and every competition they took part in. For this reason the National Team coach, Jovica Antonic, decided to give some of those youngsters a chance and invited them to play during the 2007 EuroBasket in Italy. Miljana Musović, Adrijana Knežević, Dunja Prćić, Maja Miljković and Sonja Petrović have shown they know how to win medals. Let them do it with the "Big Girls"…
Prediction
The Serbian girls will have a difficult task now. It is a question weather this rising team, which truth is has a lot of talent, will have enough experience to get into the battle with thr giants of Europe. In Italy, the greatest trump card for the blue basketball ladies will be their youth and the wish to prove themselves, as well as winning mentality.
